Gisela backs Bob the Bikeman // June 9th, 2009 // Constituency News

0906 St. Joseph's Home
Local MP Gisela Stuart has given a boost to a local cyclist’s campaign to raise money for a local residential home.

On 26 June, Harborne resident Bob Holland will be joining fellow amateur cyclists on the London to Paris cycle challenge, taking three days to cycle between the British and French capitals. With the support of a growing army of sponsors, Bob hopes to raise enough money to pay for a new lift and security system at Harborne’s St Joseph’s Home. The home, which is run by the Little Sisters of the Poor, has been helping the aged and disabled for nearly 135 years.

Sixty-one year old Bob took up cycling three years ago to regain his fitness after cancer surgery. The London to Paris challenge will be his first long ride and his first ever abroad.

Gisela joined Bob at St. Joseph’s Home to present him with a £50 cheque in support of his efforts. Gisela said:

“I was delighted to meet Bob and to give my support to his challenge. The St. Joseph’s Home is a very worthy cause, doing tremendous work for vulnerable members of our community. I urge everyone to dig deep and back Bob as he gets on his bike for charity!”.
