Number 10 bus route to continue // April 21st, 2009 // Constituency News
The number 10 bus, which goes from Tesco on Ridgacre Road in Quinton through Harborne and Edgbaston and on into town is set to continue.
National Express - who currently run the service and are the primary provider of bus services in Birmingham - announced recently that they would be stopping the service after 31st May 2009.
A second bus company Central Connect has however stepped into the breach and will be running the service from the 1st June.
Gisela Stuart MP said:
“I am delighted that Central Connect has decided to step in and take over the number 10 bus route. Its withdrawal would have left a number of constituents with very real difficulty getting out and about and into town.
“I continue to have some very serious concerns however, about the way bus services are run in the city. National Express have withdrawn a number of services over recent years in my constituency, services which other providers clearly believe can be run profitably.
“Something does not add up and I am determined to get to the bottom of it. I have been in regular contact with Centro and the bus providers this week and I will continue to be over the coming weeks and months. As far as I am concerned there is still a job of work to be done to protect other vulnerable routes in the area.
“The community and local councillors rallied behind those in need of this service but we have not yet won this battle entirely. We all need to keep the pressure on if we are to ensure good public transport links in our area.”
