Birmingham High-speed Rail Link // March 9th, 2010 // Constituency News

highspeedrail

Gisela Stuart and Steve McCabe met with Transport Secretary Lord Adonis to lobby for an early decision on the High Speed Rail Link for Birmingham.

Both MPs stressed that this is a vital part of the Midlands strategic transport structure, essential for jobs and economic growth.

To have Birmingham linked to London and Paris would mean getting from Broad Street in Birmingham to Oxford Road in London in three quarters of an hour.  The decision is vital for jobs in Birmingham and the West Midlands. 10.000 jobs for construction, 2000 permanent jobs and up to 60,000 jobs in the Region..

“We have successfully fought for New Street station to be rebuilt, and now together with Highspeed link we need a rebuilt Curzon Street Highspeed Rail link station, which does justice to Birmingham.” Said Gisela Stuart

“This shouldn’t be a party political football. They council needs to pull its finger out and get the Tory frontbenchers in London to get a move on and fight for Birmingham” says Steve McCabe.

  1. The Tories will never do anything for ordinary people.

They may talk a good game, but when it comes to delivering the goods they do nothing.

I can’t ever see them doing anyhting for Birmingham. The only part of the country they care about is the South East, that has allways been the case, and allways will be.

  2. Well done Gisela and the Birmingham team on getting the high speed rail concept into Birmingham city centre and to the airport. All parties need to unite behind the concept to make it a reality.

  3. There can be no excuse for this ridiculous scheme. The country is almost bust and now we are supposed to back a scheme costing billions which will knock a few minutes off the time it takes to get to Birmingham from London. Who benefits and what will they do with the time saved? Far better to get our existing transport services working properly.
I am all in favour of innovation and progress and the employment thus produced, but this is utter stupidity.
