Harborne
The earliest evidence of settlement around the Harborne area is of a Roman fort near Metchley Park. The earliest written mention of Harborne can be found in the Domesday Book of 1086, although it is clear that the settlement pre-dates this.
The 2001 Census recorded Harborne’s population as being 21,868. It is one of Birmingham’s most sought-after suburbs, hosting a delightful combination of greenery and ‘village’ living. Gisela Stuart successfully won additional planning permission for the Moor Pool Conservation Area, a classic example of the type of residential district known as a ‘garden suburb’. Fine and varied houses, excellent schools and the new University Hospital all make Harborne a very attractive place to live.
As well as being aesthetically pleasing, Harborne offers essential shopping facilities on its busy High Street. Furthermore, it hosts a fantastic Farmer’s Market monthly that features a wide variety of locally produce. These high quality goods include meat, fruit and vegetables, cheese, honey and much more!
