Quinton

The 2001 Census recorded Quinton had a population of 19,798.

The earliest signs of settlement in Quinton date from 1086. It was home to a grange known as Ridgeacre. As a result, for many years following this was the name given to the area known today as Quinton. Quinton is a largely residential district although there are several important green areas that still remain as a reminder of the ward’s rural history.

One notable rural area is the Woodgate Valley Country Park . This sits in the middle of Quinton and Bartley Green. It is an ideal place to have a leisurely walk, relax or simply get away from the city. Pony trekking is available and the park rangers provide at least 24 events throughout the year. Woodgate Valley is a natural place although man’s influence dates from the Bronze Age.

The urban green area of Pitts Wood is a delightful part of Quinton that comes to life in the spring when the bluebells open out and bring a splash of purple into the greenery. The ‘Friends of Pitts Wood’ came together in 2003 and have made some dramatic changes, making it a far more accessible and pleasant place to go.
