Freedom Pass for pensioners // April 5th, 2008 // Uncategorized
4 April 2008
From this month, around 11 million people across England have the opportunity to travel wherever they want for free on local buses as the new bus pass comes into effect.
This expansion of the previous local scheme entitles anyone aged 60 or over, as well as eligible disabled people, to use their free bus pass across England during the off-peak period.
Welcoming the news, Gisela Stuart MP said:
“For many older or disabled people the bus can be a lifeline.
I’m delighted that our Labour Government has delivered on its promise to pensioners by extending the free bus pass. This means means no older or disabled person in England need be prevented from visiting friends and family, or simply enjoying a day out, because of the cost of bus travel”.
