Gisela at School’s Democracy Forum // December 3rd, 2009 // Constituency News
Gisela Stuart was a guest speaker on the panel of the Birmingham School’s Democracy Forum. The event was hosted by the Rotary Club of Birmingham and held at Birmingham Council House on Fridays 27th November.
The forum was held in two parts. The first was a quiz on political news, facts and events. This helped to reveal the extent of knowledge on key issues. The second part was called ‘Question Time’. Gisela and the rest of the panel faced two hours of tough questions from Sixth Form students across the city. The most popular issues for discussion included troop numbers in Afghanistan and all women short lists. The event encouraged discussion and debate. It also encouraged politicians to engage with what young people and potential first time voters are really thinking.
Gisela said:
”The School’s Democracy Forum provides a platform for young people to participate in political debates. I fully support the Forum for its power to encourage young people to develop an interest in politics and appreciate the power of their vote.”
The day was highly successful. A lot of praise and thanks must go to BCC and the Rotarians for the fantastic organisation and running of the event.
