Vouchers for Child Trust Fund // November 18th, 2009 // Constituency News
Gisela Stuart is urging parents with young children to invest their Child Trust Fund voucher.
In a constituency of over 5000 families, 1500 have yet to make use of this government- led initiative.
The voucher is redeemable for a sum of £250 and is put into a long term savings and investment account that is tax free for both the parent and the child.
The Government introduced the Child Trust Fund in 2005. It is intended to strengthen the saving habits of future generations, promote financial education and ensure that at age 18, every child has some financial assets to start their adult life.
Gisela said:
“All parents should make use of the Child Trust Fund. It is vital that we continue to give children the chance to learn for themselves how important it is to save money. I encourage all parents in my constituency to use this as an opportunity to teach their child about the benefits of saving.”
“As of September 2009 the government have made the Fund more appealing by providing an additional payment of £250 when the child reaches the age of 7.
Furthermore, for those families that need more help, the government will automatically add another £250, meaning that they get £500.”
