Government Boiler Scrappage Scheme // January 6th, 2010 // Constituency News
The Government has launched the National Boiler Scrappage scheme that will upgrade household heating systems to cut carbon, save on fuel bills and help sustain work for the heating industry.
It is estimated that a household’s energy bill could be cut by between £200 and £235 a year, with a saving of in the region of 140,000 tonnes of CO2 per year - equivalent to taking 45,000 cars off the road
Up to 125,000 households in England with working “G-rated” boilers can from today apply for a voucher which will entitle them to £400 off the price of a new, modern “A rated” boiler or a renewable heating system.
The Scheme will be delivered by the Energy Saving Trust and will be a voucher based “cashback” scheme.
People over 60 can apply for the scheme regardless of whether the boiler they are scrapping is in working order. However, it still needs to be the main boiler used to heat the home
To find out more about the scheme and register for a voucher, call the Energy Saving Trust’s advice line on 0800 512 012 or by logging on to www.est.org.uk
Vouchers will be issued from 18 Jan to the first 125,000 eligible households that register via phone and website. The vouchers will be valid for 12 weeks, and if they are not used then will be re-allocated.
