Harborne residents still not getting recycling service // August 6th, 2008 // Uncategorized
6 August 2008
Residents of Harborne’s Chamberlain Park estate have slammed Birmingham City Council for failing to honour their pledge to provide doorstep recycling collections to every household.
Council chiefs pledged that their blue and green box scheme, which allows paper and other recyclables to be collected from each household every fortnight, would be extended to all homes in Harborne and the surrounding wards by the end of March.
However, four months on, parts of the constituency, including Chamberlain Park, are still not covered. Residents have now asked local MP Gisela Stuart to take up the case.
Gisela said:
“We were given a clear pledge that this important service would be delivered to every household in my constituency by the end of March 2008. That simply hasn’t happened and residents are rightly angered by this failure. My constituents want to be able to do their bit by recycling household waste. The Council needs to get its act together and help them”.
