Prepayment Meters: ‘Top Up Safe’ Campaign Launched // September 9th, 2010 // Constituency News
Energy companies have become aware of a scam which seems to offer cheaper electricity meter top-ups to prepayment meter customers, but just ends up with consumers paying twice.
Electricity top-ups are being sold illegally door-to-door, but beware, electricity companies can identify homes using electricity and not paying legally for it.
In response, energy companies together with Consumer Focus are launching a national campaign, “Top up Safe”.
Details of the scam and advice on topping up safely are available on the website
Customers can also contact their electricity company directly or Consumer Direct on 08454 04 05 06.
