West Midland MP’s welcome launch of Health Research Bus // June 18th, 2010 // Constituency News
Medical research at the University of Birmingham has been enhanced with the launch of the Health Research Bus (HRB), a mobile, fully functional clinical research facility that contains all the equipment necessary to perform a wide variety of clinical studies in the community.
The HRB will allow access to the diverse ethnic and socio-economic population, and in particularly those who find it difficult to access hospital to take part in clinical trials.
The development of the HRB has been funded as part of the Birmingham Science City initiative.
The HRB will run as an outreach of the existing Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Facility at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. It will also be utilised by researchers within the satellite clinical research facilities of Birmingham Children’s Hospital and the University of Birmingham’s Sport and Exercise Sciences.
Gisela said:
“The bus is similar to a mobile blood donation unit, in that it will travel around the community providing the opportunity for a wider range of volunteers to take part in clinical trials. These trials are essential for research on common medical conditions.”
